Biography
Richard Milhous Nixon was born in Yorba Linda, California, on 9 January 1913. He graduated second in his class from Whittier College in 1934, and from Duke University Law School, third in his class, in 1937. On 21 June 1940, he married Thelma "Pat" Ryan. They had two daughters, named Patricia and Julie.
A Republican representing California, Richard Nixon served two terms (1947-1950) as a United States Congressman and part of one term (1950-1952) as a United States Senator. From 1953-1960, he served as the United States Vice President under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. In the 1960 Presidential election, Nixon lost to Democrat Senator John F. Kennedy. But a few years later, he won and became the 37th President of the United States, an office he held from 1969-1974. The infamous Watergate Scandal clouded the beginning of his second term, and he was almost impeached by the House of Representatives. He resigned his position instead, becoming the first United States President ever to do so, on 9 August 1974.
Richard Milhous Nixon died on 22 April 1994, in New York City.
