About the event

Join The Brinton 1704 House and the Christiana Historical Society for a VIRTUAL discussion of the ongoing rennovation of the William Penn Brinton House, the Underground Railroad, and the Christiana Resistance right here in southeastern PA!

Darlene Colón, President of the Christiana Historical Society, will give a presentation and Q&A session on the Sep. 11, 1851 Christiana Resistance, a successful armed resistance led by free black Americans and escaped slaves to a federal marshal's raid attempting to force four people to be returned to slavery in Maryland. This incident made national news and further inflamed the country's debate surrounding the issue of slavery on the eve of the American Civil War. Darlene Colón will also discuss the area's involvement in the Underground Railroad, and the Historical Society's ongoing preservation efforts, including the William Penn Brinton house, of the same Brinton family as the 1704 House! Don't miss out on this exciting discussion!
